Provisional Work Permit (PWP) FAQs
What Is a Provisional Work Permit (PWP)?
A Provisional Work Permit (PWP) is a temporary work permit issued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to foreign nationals seeking employment in the Philippines while there is a pending application for an Alien Employment Permit (AEP) and/or 9(g) Work Visa.
What Requires a PWP?
A PWP is available to foreign nationals who (a) entered the Philippines for business, pleasure, or health purposes, (b) want to commence or have commenced local employment, and (c) have their visa application, either the Alien Employment Permit (AEP) or 9(g) Pre-Arranged Employment Visa pending approval.
What Are the Requirements for PWP Application?
Like AEP and other work permits, PWP application requires documents from both the principal applicant and the petitioning company or employer. For instance, the principal applicant needs to submit a letter request, copy of AEP of 9(g) Work Visa application, BI clearance, passport and entry visa, and application forms. On the other hand, the petitioning employer must provide its Income Tax Return (ITR) and other business registration documents.
How Is the PWP Application Processed?
The foreign applicant or any legal representative must file the documentary requirements and pay the required fees to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
How Long Does the PWP Application Take?
The processing of a PWP application, from submission of documentary requirements to issuance of the permit itself, usually takes two (2) to three (3) weeks.
What Is the Validity of a Provisional Work Permit (PWP)?
A PWP comes with a validity of three (3) months from its date of issuance or until the 9(g) Work Visa is issued, whichever comes first. It is also extendable until a work visa is approved.
What Are Other Work Permits?
Aside from a Provisional Work Permit (PWP), other work permits available for foreigners in the Philippines include the Special Work Permit (SWP), Special Temporary Permit (STP), and Alien Employment Permit (AEP). Read more about these work permits here.
Why Do You Need Expert Assistance in AEP Application?
Foreign nationals and their petitioning employers need expert assistance due to the complex and ever-evolving labor and immigration regulations in the Philippines, extensive documentation requirements, and intricate government filing processes. Visa and immigration specialists can always provide helpful guidance, assistance in document preparation, and actual filing services.
